Kartik Nair's Journey to the Nationals.

"To start with it's a great feeling to be a member of the Gujarat State Team for the Nationals scheduled to be held in December 2014 in Karnataka and it has been pretty tough getting there, and yes, things are only going to get tougher. Cycling as a sport hasn't much evolved in Gujarat State, and so, there are not many who can train an individual for particular events. But thanks to the Ahmedabad Cycling Club (ABC) and its efforts, cycling has started emerging as an important sports event in Gujarat. it is because of them that I'm here today. I started aimlessly cycling 5 months ago, before I joined the club. I met people with similar interests here, and my 'training' started. I started to train after July and started realizing how enduring, both physically and emotionally, the sport was. It is not easy or simple as it looks or sounds. For better cycling, we require better roads, proper traffic management and they continue to be major concerns along with atmospheric conditions.

Also, there are not much competitions organized in cycling as there are in other sports, but the ABC has been lately organizing competitions/championships every month since July where we have been getting a platform to perform and improve.

The National Championship is scheduled to be conducted in Jamakhandi, Karnataka from December 26-29, 2014, and I will be competing in Under-23 Elite Men Division. This is my first National Event in cycling, and am quite excited about it. I have started training hard for the event along with my friends Tapan and Vivek, who are already excellent cyclists. In fact, they have greatly helped me getting into this sports and the improvement I have gained.

I am a Third Year Student at St. Xavier's College, Ahmedabad, with Economics as my major subject."

ABC | Night ride

10 Abcian's rode yesterday in the cool wintery night. The city was bright and up with full lights all the way, bustling with traffic , pedestrians and the 'Wrong Siders'.

Captain Gauravbhai was at the helm riding and piloting us all the way. Vivek for a change was happy at the back and we felt good riding in front of him and alongside cracking jokes... :). Shravan was there with his camera mounted on the cycle and he along with Bhavin bhai helped all to cross the four roads safely while shouting: "Jojo a jojo, ubha rehjo, java do java do". Cycling couple Samirbhai BRM and Hemal didi were wonderful company all the way - missed the 'CJ' in him yesterday though. It was pleasure meeting and having Dr. Uma Vinod with us. Tapanlal was there in the front, in the mid and at the back, almost everywhere. How can i not mention JK, his company is always a pleasure, lots of smiles and jokes all along. Kartik was there with his silent presence and high cadence. Me 10th of the lot had lots of fun on my first night ride with ABC with 'Shakti kapoor' laughs or as Hemal didi said 'Vikram Vetal Laughs'.

We ordered 3 Sundaes, coffee, choco dip, Zulu bar... After that we were still "Ye dil maange more" so off went Shravan to order 2 Thin crust pizzas but ended up ordering 2 more Sundaes.
We had more number of spoons than the ice creams and I had a sweet spoon tug of war with Samirbhai Brm over chocolate scoop.
Like the president put in: Hope once we can ride to manekchowk and have lots of yummies. I am in for it, are you abcian?

Good fun, easy ride, lots of smiles laughs and giggles and the most important of all - Ice creams.
Those who are missing it dont know what they are missing. Next ride do join and lets have a blast.
Cheers ABC.

Balasinor Ride | November 9th 2014

What a day it was. 18 riders. 11 for Both ways and 7 for one way. As per Parvez it was the first ride where all the people completed together happily.

Thanks for the Support from Harsh Uncle, Neha Aunty, Supriya Aunty, Samir Uncle. While coming back all the one way riders turned into support. That was a good help by them.

Big thanks to Family of Dr. Amit Patel who hosted all of us very well. With Breakfast, food and most important the Massage Chair.

Today's riding experience with all the riders was good.

Such tours helps all of us to know each other very well. More and More riders should participate in tours. If not full route, half. If not riding than as a support.

And yes Prakash Bhai and Saharbhai are almost trained now. :) They also supported well.

Cheers to ABC family, it rocks.
